The Monks Who Dwell On Art and Science of Compounding: Knowledge And Investments

 

We seek to build knowledge and learn something each day to improve our understanding so that we can better and compound our lives and investments. As a focus, we dwell on the art of compounding; developing processes and ideas that results into compounding investments and wealth.

 

Guy Spier, in his book, The Education of a Value Investor, talks about how a small positive change or a habit such as writing a personal letter to people could have a compounding effect.

He writes...

In sending out this cascade of letters, I began to open up to people in a way that I never had before, and I started to see everyone around me as someone I could learn from. As I now understand, this habit of writing letters is an incredibly effective way of compounding goodwill and relationships instead of merely compounding money.

Einstein is often said to have called compounding the eighth wonder of the world. But the narrowly financial application of compounding may be the least valuable and least interesting aspect of this phenomenon. 

We do not define compounding narrowly, we value life, happiness and love... as larger causes. We feel that a prudent or rational investor would look at investing as part of overall wellbeing. Investing, built merely on the belief of wealth creation, is an illusion.

 

As Warren Buffett once said, “When you get to my age, you’ll really measure success in life by how many people you want to have love you against how many actually do love you.”
